The 8^th International Scientific Conference ToSEE – Tourism in Southern and Eastern Europe (“Shaping the Future: Digital Tourism and Sustainable Development”) was organised by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and successfully held in Opatija from 15 to 17 May 2025.

As an established multidisciplinary conference, ToSEE 2025 brought together researchers, destination stakeholders, industry professionals, and policy makers to discuss how digital transformation can support sustainable and responsible tourism development. The programme offered a rich exchange of ideas on the challenges and opportunities facing tourism in a rapidly changing social, economic, technological, and environmental context.

The conference featured keynote presentations by distinguished international speakers Dogan Gursoy (Washington State University, USA), Carlos Flavián (University of Zaragoza, Spain), and Raffaele Filieri (Audencia Business School, France).

The proceedings reflect the conference’s international reach and showcase peer-reviewed research addressing a wide range of contemporary topics, including digitalisation in tourism, sustainability, destination management, stakeholder engagement, human resources, crisis management, and the role of technology in shaping tourism experiences.
